Peanuts on Parade

2000

In the summer of 2000, Ta-coumba T. Aiken was selected as one of seventy-five artists to participate in a notable public art project honoring the beloved Peanuts characters created by Saint Paul-born cartoonist Charles Schulz. Aiken contributed his distinctive superlative realism style to a series of five-foot statues, capturing the essence of Schulz's iconic characters and adding a vibrant artistic flair to the cityscape. This initiative not only celebrated Schulz's legacy but also showcased the talents of local artists, fostering a sense of community and creativity through public art.

“Over five summers, the "Peanuts on Parade" public art campaign peppered the beloved comic strip characters throughout creator Charles Schulz's hometown. Hundreds of 5-foot-tall statues, each painted and decorated by a local artist, drew more than 2 million visitors to St. Paul, according to the city's visitors bureau.” — By Katie Galioto , Star Tribune
